Standard 36-health tournament style game. Had a 3 player game. Rich Pathed to glory in the first game. Pat won the second game. The second game was a long drawn out game. Everyone had Gold magic and was using it. It got called on time. Pat got the last turn. It looked hopeless for her at first. Each of us had one eighth face, and she had slightly more health buried than Rich (I had a lot buried by then). But Rich had put a Dragon on her the turn before. She got a Cantrip and used it to Path one unit to Rich's terrain that he had at 8. She easily killed the dragon. Then she rolled for magic and put 6 Wind Walks on the unit that she had just Pathed. Rich lost his eighth face, and so Pat won.

Standard 36-health tournament style game. Had a 4 player game. All Feral army (Pat) vs Swampstalker/Goblin (Chuck) (all commons) vs Missile monsters w/ artifacts (Jim) vs Frostwing/Amazon (Rich) missile. With Frostwing/Amazons and the Swampstalker/Golbins each with an eighth, the Feral army was wiped out by three black dragons. Amazons survived the dragons and turned the terrain to 7, only to find the terrain Mired, and a fourth black dragon added. Swampstalker/Golbins came in an took the terrain away, after moving the three dragons that were left onto the Frostwings.

Then we had a 5 player game. Another all Feral army (Chuck), Dwarven w/ 2 'Slayers (Pat), Feral/Goblin (Rich), Undead (Jim), and Lava Elf/Dwarven/Goblin army (Bill). Rich got an eighth unopposed, Chuck beat out Jim and Bill for another eighth. Pat and Bill were fighting for a terrain at 7, when Rich Pathed a Leopard Rider to the terrain off a Cantrip from a dragon attack, then rolled for magic, dropped a Transmute Rock to Mud on both Pat and Bill, and 2 Wind Walks on his Leopard Rider to take an second eighth.

We then broke up into to groups. Rich and Chuck played off in the winner's bracket, while Pat, Jim and Bill played a three player game. Chuck won the two-player game using a Feral Hide, followed up by 4 Wind Walks. Pat won the three player game, after each had taken an eighth face, she hit Bill with 3 Transmute Rock to Muds and took the 4th terrain.

Standard 36-health tournament style game. Had a 4 player game. Looked a couple of times like it would end quickly, but everyone ended up with one eighth face, and the 5th terrain was sitting at '1'. That last terrain became rather deadly, with 4 black dragons sitting there. Several armies were wiped out by the dragons. Rich finally won it after getting a lucky roll against the dragons (i.e. his army mostly survived).

Battlefest: Pat won it by health in play as we ran out of time and everyone had an eighth face. Both Pat and Chuck brought "death from above", while Rich brought a Dwarven/Lava Elf army. Pat had all Frostwing mages, with Dragonslayers (2 Black, 2 Red, 1 White). Chuck had 1/3 Coral Elf mages, 1/3 Firewalker mages, and 1/3 Coral Elf cavalry. Dragonslayers didn't do much since both Rich and Chuck just stayed away from them. On second thought, maybe they did do a lot, since we never stayed near them.

Standard 36-health tournament style game. Only had time for one 3 player game. Nothing too exciting, a Path to victory gave Chuck the win.

June, 2001

Standard 36-health tournament style games. First game was bit drawn out, no one could seem to get and keep an eighth face. Chuck finally got an eighth, and no one wanted to take on Dwarves in Highland. Chuck won the game on a quick path to victory as soon as a second terrain got to 7.

Second game had some very different armies. John tried a Frostwing army that was all missile and mages. Pat tried a Scalder run and gun army (no mages at all). Rich stuck to a Dwarven/Firewalker army (not all the Firewalkers were mages). Chuck tried a Feral/Firewalker army (Firewalker mages). Pat got in a few good missile shots, but Rich got his mages to magic and shut her down. A few charges later, and Pat's army was almost all in the DUA. Rich just keep pelting everyone with Lightning and Firebolts. It ended up wearing everyone down so that when Rich went for the 2 8th, no one could really stop him.

Nature only: The first game had an all-Coral Elf army. It didn't win, but all agreed it was only because it was badly out of position with 3 of the 4 terrains starting at 6. Also saw a Dwarven/Firewalker army, a Dwarven/Feral army, and of course, the all Feral army. Jim tried a different tack, with Feral, Firewalker, and a Dragonlord. Winning armies were; Dwarven/Firewalker, Feral. Surprised to not see any Scalders.

Mages only, Battlefest size: Some interesting armies from this battle. Undead fighter/mages, Frostwing archer/mages were some of the things tried. In the end, it was the good old Path to victory that made the difference.

The "Red only" game brought out the Scalder Archers vs Scalder/Firewalkers vs Lava Elf/Scalders. Interestingly, all the terrains were Coastlands. The archers soon got wiped out. They were totally ineffective against armies with other Scalders in them. The Lava Elves (mostly Necromancer), held their own for a while, but were soon brought down by large doses of Red Dragons and Lightning Strikes. 3 Red Dragons, with two breaths at once, was too much for the Lava Elves.

The second game saw the same Lava Elf/Scalders, but against a Dwarven/Lava Elf and a Dwarven/Firewalker army. The two Dwarven armies massed all together at one Highland at 7. Rich (Dwarven/Firewalker), decided after failing to move Chuck's Dwarven/Lava Elf army, to charge. After the Lava Elves casting a Flaming Armor spell, the Defenders dealt the attackers more net damage. After taking the 8th, the Dwarven/Lava Elf army started dropping Red Dragons around. Facing 3 Wyrms at once was too much for either of the other two armies. After charging each other, Jim's army was wiped out, and Rich was left with 9 health. A few Fingers of Death later, Chuck was facing a lone Firewalker Rare vs 18 health strong of Dwarven Cavalry at a 7th face.

The "No duplicates" had some interesting armies show up. For the first 3 player game, Rich brought Undead and Swampstalkers. Interestingly, a mix of light and heavy Undead mages. Jim brought Coral Elves, with a Dragonlord and a blue Dragonstaff. Chuck brought a Lava Elf, Dwarf, and Firewalker army. The first eighth face was taken by Jim, who then lost it to Rich after his Dragonstaff summoned a Blue Dragon which paralyzed his army. Both Chuck and Jim took an eighth face unopposed. Rich ended up winning the game by slugging out with Jim at the last terrain.

The second game was a 2 player game between Rich and Chuck. Rich had the same army as the first with some tweaks. Chuck brought an all Goblin army, all the Goblins except the archers, and the Shambler. Needless to say all three terrains were Swamplands. Rich got the first eighth face, with Chuck getting one shortly after. Chuck attempted to knock Rich off his eighth face, and did so, but was unable to take the eighth for himself. After Chuck getting slightly over half his army killed or buried Rich turned the last terrain up to seven. Chuck rolled for magic and got exactly 4 gold. He then pathed a Death Naga to terrain at seven, rolled and got 8 maneuvers, while Rich only got 6. Another Path to Victory!
